ARTIST STATEMENT
Art and its creation are mysteries that are very difficult to explain.
For as long as I can remember I've liked to draw. Although I have experimented with many mediums, painting and drawing are what I lean towards. Visually and emotionally I am intrigued by people and human nature – subjects that I try to interpret through expressive paintings of athletes and dancers. The questions are simple. How do you paint the essence of a person? What makes them who they are? How do you paint the expressiveness of dance, the beauty of physical movement or the strength and tenacity of an athlete? This is my challenge.
I have worked as an artist for most of my life and I am only beginning to understand such complexities. If the viewer looks closely, some of these answers can be found in my work. It’s easy to paint the surface – it’s far more difficult to paint what lies beneath.
